Following the events of Avengers: Infinity War

The Avengers are in particularly low spirits. In order to help them out, Black Widow and Hawkeye lead a mission to the archives to dig up some of their old adventures. Readers get to see this mission through the eyes of Clint and Natasha, who are struggling to come to terms with the events of the Infinity War. Those who have seen the movie already can probably guess where this mission ends up, but readers who have yet to experience the events of Infinity War will still get an inside look at how the team is dealing with everything that has happened.

This comic book adaptation of the first two phases of the MCU is essentially an extended trailer for Avengers: Infinity War. It also serves as a prelude to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Thor: Ragnarok.

Like the two previous entries in the MCU

This movie starts with the aftermath of a major battle. In this case, that’s the destruction of half of New York by the Chitauri in the mid-credits scene of The Avengers. The Avengers are already on the hunt for the next alien threat when Thanos shows up and quickly assembles his team of aliens, including Nebula, Eitri, Korvac and Cull Obsidian.

Red Skull enters the fray as well, and he’s not happy with the direction the Avengers are going in. Red Skull is responsible for the Chitauri attack, and he’s also determined to use the power of the Infinity Stones to rule the universe. The Skull’s team consists of Crossbones, Zemo, and the Super-Adaptoid. The comic book series will be released in three bi-monthly installments in 2018 with each issue focusing on one movie installment. Each issue contains some pages from other Marvel comics set within that movie’s universe that tie into it or provide additional information about it.
